The year is 2018 and I have some new vacation pics I want to show my friends and family. Never in the history of the internet have I had so many social media options for sharing my trip. But despite my numerous options, none feel like the right hammer for this particular nail.
My once vibrant Facebook feed has gradually given way to video ads, clickbait and political flame wars. These days, I’m more likely to see a comment from my grandma than my girlfriend.

My grandma, “Mimi,” always makes sure to sign her posts
I could turn my eyes to the younger and sexier Instagram, but the truth is that I’m a crummy photographer and I still call the ‘#’ symbol “pound.”
I might opt for the low-commitment and ephemeral Snapchat to document my trip. But until the National Park Service installs WiFi access points in the backcountry, I’d probably be stuck making my duck faces at the bears.
I could be the model employee and post to Google+, but I’m worried that the QPS spike would start setting off pagers around the office.
And so what in what is perhaps a concession to my advanced age (by Silicon Valley standards, anyways), I turn to the humble personal blog. Like a vinyl record, it’s a medium so hopelessly outdated it’s almost cool again.

I mostly plan to use this blog to document my trips (and occasional rants) for my own enjoyment, but I hope that a few of you will enjoy coming along for the ride!
